Ingredients in Lucky Charms Treats

Lucky Charms bars can be as easy as combining Lucky Charms, butter, and marshmallows, but I like to add a few extra ingredients to make these super special. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 5 Tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk (the secret ingredient!)
  • Kosher salt
  • Splash of vanilla extract
  • 7 cups mini marshmallows, divided
  • 6 1/2 cups Lucky Charms cereal

How to Make Lucky Charms Bars

  1. Melt the butter in a large pot on the stove over medium heat. Stir in the condensed milk and cook until just starting to bubble, 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add the salt and vanilla extract, then stir in 6 cups of marshmallows. Reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring often, until the marshmallows are just softened.
  3. Stir in the cereal along with the last cup of marshmallows. Stir until well coated. Transfer to a greased 8 inch square or 9 x 13 inch pan and cool before cutting.

Tip: reserve a few of the Lucky Charms marshmallows before adding them to the pot, then gently spread them on top of the finished bars for extra colorful treats. You can also buy a bag of Lucky Charms marshmallows here.

How to Keep Cereal Treats Soft and Gooey

  • Add sweetened condensed milk. The condensed milk adds a sweetness reminiscent of the milk left at the bottom of a bowl of Lucky Charms. Plus, it helps keep the treats soft!
  • Add a handful of mini marshmallows at the end. I like to add about a cup of mallows with the cereal that won’t quite melt all the way. This leaves lovely little pockets of gooey marshmallow in the treats.
  • Don’t pat the treats down. I know it’s tempting to push the treats down into the pan, but please resist this urge! Patting the mixture down leads to hard, dense treats. Instead, spray your hands with cooking spray and use them to gently spread the treats evenly out over the pan. No need to press them down!

How long do Lucky Charms Cereal Treats last?

Lucky Charms Bars are best served within 24 hours, but thanks to the sweetened condensed milk, they’ll last for 2-3 days in a sealed container or tightly wrapped in saran wrap. Do not refrigerate.

  5. Immediately transfer to the prepared pan. Spray your hands with cooking spray to evenly spread out the mixture. Do not pat down! Allow to cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • This makes 12 very thick Lucky Charms treats. If you prefer thinner treats, feel free to put this in a 9 x 13 inch pan.
  • A 10 ounce bag of marshmallows contains 6 cups. The final cup of marshmallows can be omitted if you only have a 10 ounce bag!
  • If desired, save a few of the marshmallows from the Lucky Charms before adding them to the melted marshmallow perspective. Press them gently on top of the finished bars for extra colorful treats.
