Alvarez's failed test nearly destroyed any hopes for a rematch.

After having to sit out for more than a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Saul Canelo Alvarez is wasting no time getting back to action as he gets set to face mandatory challenger Avni Yildirim in a WBA, WBC and The Ring super middleweight title bout on Saturday night. It will be Alvarez's second fight in three months, while Yildirim returns to the ring after a 24-month layoff. The 12-round bout is expected to start at 10 p.m. ET from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Since turning pro in 2005, Alvarez has compiled a 54-1-2 all-time record, with his only loss coming at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September 2013. William Hill Sportsbook pegs Alvarez as a -4000 favorite (risk $4,000 to win $100) in the latest Alvarez vs. Yildirim odds, with the Turkish fighter getting +1500 (risk $100 to win $1,500) as the underdog. Before making any Alvarez vs. Yildirim picks, see the latest boxing predictions from SportsLine analyst Peter Kahn.

A 2020 Boxing Writers Association of America Cus D'Amato Manager of the Year nominee, Kahn has his finger on the pulse of what's going on inside and outside of the ring. Kahn has managed numerous world champions and currently manages 20 fighters through his company, Fight Game Advisors. He can be seen and heard weekly on 'The Fight Guys' on YouTube.

Kahn is uncanny when it comes to picking fights. He is an astounding 32-8 on SportsLine boxing picks since the hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, returning a whopping $3,472 to $100 bettors.

In January, Kahn predicted Ryan Garcia would knock out Luke Campbell in under 9.5 rounds. The result: Garcia knocked Campbell out in the seventh round. In December, Kahn said Anthony Joshua would knock down Kubrat Pulev in the first three rounds, a 2-1 underdog pick. The result: Joshua delivered two third-round knockdowns en route to a ninth-round TKO. In November, Kahn predicted legends Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. would fight to a draw, and anyone who followed Kahn's advice was rewarded with a strong 12-1 payout.

In October, Kahn called one of the year's biggest upsets, predicting Teofimo Lopez would stun Vasiliy Lomachenko to become the unified lightweight champ. In the end, Lopez outhit the pound-for-pound king from the first bell, winning convincingly for a monster payout. Anyone who followed Kahn's advice won $350 for every $100 risked.

Alvarez vs. Yildirim preview

Alvarez may be 30 years old, but he is in his prime when it comes to boxing. Since losing to Mayweather, Alvarez has been on a roll, winning 12 of 13 fights, with the other being a draw that he later avenged. He has six knockouts and four unanimous decision victories during that span. Alvarez is determined to unify the 168-pound division when he meets Yildirim as well as Billy Joe Saunders for another unification bout in May.

Yildirim, meanwhile, has twice challenged for a world title: the IBO super-middleweight title in 2017 and WBC super-middleweight championship in 2019. He gets another shot when he faces Alvarez, although he faces long odds. His first attempt against Chris Eubank Jr. in 2017 ended when he was knocked out in Round 3 at one minute, 58 seconds.

His second attempt against American Anthony Dirrell went much better, although it ended with a split decision defeat when the fight was stopped due to a cut above his opponent's left eye. Kahn is only sharing his coveted picks here.

How to make Alvarez vs. Yildirim picks

Kahn has a strong pick on who wins. In fact, he says a critical X-factor you're not even thinking about will decide this highly-anticipated fight. He's also backing a prop that pays 5-1. You can see all of his picks and analysis here.

Plant vs. Truax: Tale of the tape

Canelo Vs Smith Odds

Caleb Plant

Plant (20-0) puts his unblemished record on the line against Truax (31-4-2) in a battle of 168 pounders. Both stand 6-foot-1, with Truax holding a one-inch reach advantage. Plant might have the advantage in age, as he is a youthful 28 as opposed to Truax, who enters at 37 and supposedly in the twilight of his career. In 20 career pro bouts Plant has 12 KOs, or a 60% clip, while Truax has 19 knockouts to his name, or 51.3%.

“Sweethands” Plant, took care of Vincent Feigenbutz via TKO in Round 10 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville last time we saw him Feb. 15, 2020. Before that was a third-round TKO against Mike Lee July 20, 2019. The last time he went the distance was Jan. 13, 2019, when he snagged the belt from Jose Uzcategui, winning the 12-round bout by unanimous decision. Five of his previous seven fights went the distance.

Caleb Truax

Truax picked up a majority decision win over David Basajjamivule in Minneapolis Jan. 25, 2020. He won this IBF super middleweight belt Dec. 9, 2017, in London against James DeGale, but had it taken back by DeGale April 7, 2018. This might be the 37-year-old’s last chance at a strap, and he enters as a decisive underdog against Plant. Truax has gone 2-1 across his past three fights with a no-contest against Peter Quillin. Four of his past five bouts have gone the distance, with his only stoppage against Fabiano Pena Aug. 24, 2018.

Plant (-3500) as a humongous favorite, and there is never any way to justify risking 35 times your potential return. You also can’t take the heavy underdog Truax (+1000) on the 3-way line. He is at the tail end of his career and will be put out to pasture by the rising star Plant. Let’s get more specific and pinpoint the method of victory, as well as round-block betting.

PLANT BY KO/TKO/TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (-250) will cost you a pretty penny, but that’s as good a bet as any in terms of method of victory. This one isn’t going the distance, and Plant is very confident of an early finish.

Canelo Vs Rocky Odds

Truax is a veteran, and he’ll make Plant work for it. As such, I do not expect an early bow out from the 37-year-old, so I generally like to do a three-block wager in fights like these. PLANT IN ROUND 7 (+900), PLANT IN ROUND 8 (+900) and PLANT IN ROUND 9 (+1000) is a good way to go.

Canelo vs rocky odds predictions

Yes, you will lose two of those ends, but if the fight finishes in Plant’s favorite in Rounds 7-9, you will be well ahead.
