Feb 24, 2021 Bryant previously worked out with the Ravens last August. He planned to play in 2018 after signing a one-year deal with the Saints in November of that year, but he tore his Achilles in his first. Oct 27, 2020 Bryant hasn't played in a game since December 2017. In November 2018, Bryant signed a one-year, $1.25 million deal with the New Orleans Saints. But he tore an Achilles tendon during his first.

Training camps are starting this week for NFL teams and former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant still remains unsigned. One would’ve thought that the talented, passionate Bryant would’ve been picked up by now. Speculations are swirling over why no team has signed him yet. Some people believe that Bryant’s on-field production has declined due to age and injuries. Other pundits and critics believe that Bryant’s personality isn’t a good fit for many lockers across the league. Nevertheless, Bryant is still too talented to not make it on a roster by time the 2018 season starts. With that said, oddsmakers have a wide range of teams that they feel Bryant will land with. However, there was one team not too high on the list that has actually stirred up some buzz over their recent conversations with Bryant.

Latest News on Dez Bryant

  1. Dec 21, 2018 Dez Bryant has not had a 1,000-yard season since 2014. He even has gone 23 games without a 100-yard game, with his last one coming against Pittsburgh on Nov. Bryant turned 30 in November.
  2. Dez Bryant was cut in April 2018 and remained on the free-agent market until November. It wasn’t until the New Orleans Saints, en route to an NFC South championship, signed Bryant to a one-year, $1.25 million deal.

Earlier this week, one of the Cleveland Browns top receivers Josh Gordon decided to reenter a treatment program as he continues his recent success with sobriety. That decision left the Browns lacking depth at the wide receiver position. So, the team reached out to talk with Dez Bryant. In fact, GM John Dorsey and head coach Hue Jackson both had a chance to talk with Dez.

According to a report by ESPN, Dorsey made the following comments about free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant:

“I’ve had a chance to be around Dez,” he said. “I’ve known Dez. I got a chance, when he was down there at Lufkin, Texas, I actually went to his workout and got a chance to meet him down there. I know what kind of person he is and what makes him. He’s a very talented player.”

Dorsey is waiting to see what comes from these talks with Bryant and his agent. Although the Browns expect Gordon to be back sooner than later, and definitely this season, it doesn’t hurt to add another weapon for new Browns QB Tyrod Taylor.

2018 NFL Dez Bryant Odds

The following odds for where Dez Bryant will play this season are courtesy of YouWager. And, as you can see, the Browns weren’t even listed as a potential landing spot when these odds were released a week or so ago, but they would’ve fallen in “The Field” option:

  • Tennessee Titans 1:2
  • Houston Texans 2:1
  • New York Giants 3:1
  • Green Bay Packers 4:1
  • Washington Redskins 6:1
  • San Francisco 49ers 6:1
  • Buffalo Bills 15:2
  • New England Patriots 8:1
  • Miami Dolphins 10:1
  • Seattle Seahawks 10:1
  • Oakland Raiders 12:1
  • Arizona Cardinals 12:1
  • Jacksonville Jaguars 13:1
  • Denver Broncos 15:1
  • Carolina Panthers 18:1
  • Philadelphia Eagles 18:1
  • The Field 30:1

Analyzing the Potential Landing Spots

On Monday, July 24th, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Dez Bryant wants to play with a team that can contend for championships. So, when looking at the list of teams and odds above, Rapoport’s news pretty much eliminates many of the NFL franchises on this list:

On the list above, the Giants, Washington, San Francisco, Seattle, Oakland, Arizona, Dolphins, and Denver won’t even make the playoffs in my opinion, and might not even have winning records in 2018. Additionally, Seattle already added Brandon Marshall over Dez Bryant, the Giants weren’t interested in Dez after the receiver publicly discussed playing in New York, and both the Cardinals and Dolphins don’t have the money to pay Bryant what he wants. The Raiders have 3 stud receivers and don’t need anyone else. The same could be said for the Broncos who feature Thomas and Sanders as their top 2 wide-outs.

Playoff Caliber

Bryant

The Titans, Texans, Bills, and Panthers are all playoff caliber teams, but each one poses hurdles in potentially signing Dez. Houston already has a #1 receiver in Hopkins and has a #2 as well. Additionally, they have a young QB that doesn’t need Dez’s dominating personality in the huddle or the locker room.

The Panthers could use Bryant’s big body and red zone capabilities. Furthermore, he would be a nice addition to a mostly young receiver group. I could also see Dez and Cam getting a long well. But, the Panthers just haven’t shown any interest in adding a receiver like Dez especially after trading for Torrey Smith. And they don’t have a lot of money to meet Dez’s inflated salary demands.

The Buffalo Bills could desperately use a player like Dez to join their roster. However, Dez has not shown much interest in the Bills despite early off-season reports that Buffalo had some interest. Dez could sign a handsome 1-year contract and possibly rebuild his image with the Bills. But, with a young QB under center, and an organization built on their head coach’s team first, work hard philosophy, it might be difficult to justify signing Bryant who’s been known to shake up a locker room.

The Titans seem like a good fit here. They could use a veteran, big bodied receiver to help in the red zone and to provide a reliable option for Mariota. I wouldn’t rule them out as they do have the talent to make the playoffs. With that said, it’s hard to see Bryant going to a run-heavy offense with young receivers already getting a lot of snaps.

Championship Contenders

The Patriots could be a nice landing sport for Dez as he would get a shot to go to the Super Bowl and play with one of the greatest QB’s of all-time in Tom Brady. Could Dez actually do things the Patriots Way? Would he and Belichick clash? I think Hogan, Edelman, and Dez would make for a great group of receivers. This is a location to keep an eye on.

The Jaguars also need a proven receiver now that Robinson and Hurns have left via free agency. In fact, Hurns signed with Dallas to help replace Dez Bryant. This offense doesn’t throw the ball as much as Dez would like and I’m not sure if Blake Bortles could handle a player like Dez.

The Philadelphia Eagles do make sense as Dez is familiar with this team and stadium. The defending Super Bowl champs are the odds on favorite to make it back to the SB this year and the addition of Dez could lead them to a second straight championship. However, the Eagles do have a solid group of receivers already and it would be difficult seeing Dez happy with a reduced workload and a #3 receiver spot.

Lastly, the Packers could be a great landing spot for Bryant as they just parted ways with Jordy Nelson and could use another veteran wide receiver. Dez would be a nice addition to a team that needs more weapons on offense. He also would benefit greatly from playing with one of the league’s best quarterbacks in Aaron Rodgers. Although Dez has lost a step and can’t just blow by defenders anymore, Rodgers has been known to squeeze a football into tight windows, which would be perfect for a big receiver like Dez.

Final Thoughts on Dez Bryant and Betting Prediction

Although Cleveland has talked to Bryant this week, and the Ravens talked to him early after his release, there hasn’t been much else going on with Dez. The talented receiver appears to be holding out for the right team and the right contract. Unfortunately, that might not work out best for him.

The three betting options that I like the best are: Green Bay, New England, and The Field. However, if I had to bet on one, I would go with The Field at 30:1 odds. Cleveland was a team that qualifies as The Field and I can see a few more organizations from this betting option exploring the possibility of signing Dez.

I believe the best fit would be with the Green Bay Packers, but at 4:1 odds, the payout isn’t quite worth the risk as The Field at 30:1 odds.

Feb. 24 (UPI) — Veteran NFL wide receiver Dez Bryant said he quickly learned the Baltimore Ravens weren’t the right team for him last season and that he plans to play for at least two more seasons.

The Ravens signed Bryant to their practice squad in October and their final 53-man roster in November. He made just six catches for 47 yards and two scores in six games last season after entirely sitting out the 2018 and 2019 seasons due to injuries and being unsigned.

Bryant detailed his tenure with the Ravens on Tuesday when a Twitter user asked him about offensive coordinator Greg Roman’s impact on the Baltimore offense.

“I will speak on my personal experience,” he tweeted. “I was in a position where everything was already established.

“I took advantage of getting myself right. I realized quick [that] Baltimore wasn’t the place for me. No bad blood, that’s their way of doing things so you gotta respect it.”

Bryant said he had good chemistry on and off the field with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, but other players had a better understanding of the team’s offensive concepts. He said the lack of organized team activities and training camp last year also had an impact on his development with the team.

Bryant called the Ravens a “first-class” franchise and didn’t rule out a possible future as a wide receivers coach.

“I plan on playing two more years and that’s it for me,” he wrote when asked how much longer he wants to play in the NFL.

Bryant, 32, appeared in two Ravens playoff games last season, but did not catch either of his two targets. The three-time Pro Bowl selection and 2014 All-Pro led the NFL with 16 receiving scores in 2014 for the Dallas Cowboys.

Bryant has had three seasons with at least 1,200 yards and 12 touchdown catches. The No. 24 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft spent the first eight years of his career with the Cowboys. After he was released by Dallas, he signed with the New Orleans Saints for 2018 but a torn Achilles tendon kept him off the field all season.
